Services

I offer a full range of services for individuals, couples, and families utilizing both short-term and long-term therapy. I also offer what I call "brief-long-term therapy", meaning, therapy for people who need to be seen periodically over a long phase of treatment. My work combines the depth of psychoanalysis with the real life effectiveness of cognitive behavioral techniques.

Individual Psychotherapy

After an initial consultation and assessment that also includes a history taking, we get down to the obstructions preventing people from achieving their goals. Using insights and emotional working-through, clients begin to heal old wounds and move past personal defense mechanisms that inhibit growth. Guided Imagery, Gestalt Therapy and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing are often used when insight alone is not enough. These processes are usually effective with symptoms such as: depression, anxiety, anger, fear, trauma, low self-esteem, co-dependence, grief and loss, divorce, abuse, sexual problems, and relationship problems.

Couples Therapy

Intimate relationships are one of life's richest pleasures, but also present us with some of our greatest challenges. Research has shown that unhappy marriages can negatively impact the immune system and increase the probability of getting sick and even shorten your life by an average of four years. So, how does one improve the quality of their marriage? I believe that the heart of a successful marriage is a foundation of friendship. To facilitate friendship, I work with couples on these issues: communications and intimacy, conflict resolution, anger management, parenting, sexuality and pre-marital counseling.

Family Therapy

Family therapy is a powerful method of resolving interpersonal conflicts within family members. Because all family members are present, the interactional patterns present themselves to the therapist who can then work with them as they manifest in the therapy office. These negative patterns can be repaired on the spot, and transformed more effectively than traditional individual therapy. Typical issues that people bring up are: adolescent acting-out, parenting conflicts, sibling rivalry, divorce, step-parenting problems, communication problems, eating disorders, anger management, substance abuse, ADD/ADHD.
